Strong Start Not Enough as the Crimson Storm Fall in Five

Despite an early lead, the Reddies answered back to take down SNU 3-2

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Southern Nazarene battled it out with Henderson State on Friday afternoon but the Reddies overcame the 2-0 SNU lead to earn the reverse sweep in Arkadelphia..

Southern Nazarene (8-15, 3-8 GAC) came out swinging, dominating the opening set with a blistering .583 attack percentage. Kate Wright and Jaidyn Reid led the charge early as the Crimson Storm took control, pulling away late for a 25-20 win.

The Storm carried that energy into the second, using a balanced attack from Wright, Reid, and Hannah Morgan to build momentum. SNU's offense stayed sharp down the stretch, as Morgan's ace and Wright's timely kills helped seal a 25-22 victory and a 2-0 match lead.

Henderson State (13-12, 5-6 GAC) responded in the third set, capitalizing on an 8-0 run to take a 16-10 lead. Despite early kills from Reid, the Reddies held firm and used a strong finish to take the set 25-18. The Storm answered back with five straight points to pull within two, but Henderson finished things off, edging out SNU 25-17 to avoid a sweep.

The fourth set saw more of the same as The Reddies looked to stay alive. The two squads traded points for most of the set, but a small 4-0 run allowed the Reddies to take the lead 19-13. Henderson took over from there, closing out set four 25-17 to even the match.

In a tense fifth set, both teams traded points early before the Reddies put together four straight points to lead 8-4. The Crimson Storm continued to battle thanks to Wright and Georgia Byers, but the Reddies took the final set 15-9 to complete the comeback.

Wright led the way for SNU with 20 kills and 16 digs, while Reid added 16 kills and 20 digs for a double-double effort. Morgan turned in 13 kills, three aces, and two blocks in another all-around performance. Setter Brelee Mauldin tallied 55 assists, her career high.
