Crimson Storm Fall 2-1 on the Road to Newman

Francisco Chong’s early goal puts SNU ahead, but a late push by the Jets hands the Storm a tough loss in Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. - Southern Nazarene men's soccer hit the road to Wichita, Kansas, on Saturday but came up short, falling 2-1 to Newman University.

The Crimson Storm (5-6-3, 3-4-2 GAC) got off to a fast start as Francisco Chong found the back of the net just seven minutes in to give SNU the early 1-0 lead. The Storm kept the pressure on as Pedro Arbizu forced a save from Newman's (6-3-5, 3-2-2 MIAA) Francisco Pinochet, while SNU goalkeeper Aimar Aramendia came up with key stops to hold the lead. Late in the first half, Newman broke through to tie the match 1-1 heading into halftime.

In the second half, SNU created several good looks, including shots from Junior Duran and Bekir Lekic, but both were denied by Pinochet. The Jets  managed to sneak in a second goal to take the 2-1 advantage.

Despite a strong push from the Storm in the closing minutes, SNU couldn't find the equalizer and fell 2-1 on the road.
