Storm Earns Road Win Over Monticello

Southern Nazarene takes down the Weevils, 76-65

MONTICELLO, Ark. - The Crimson Storm hit the road to take on the Weevils of Arkansas-Monticello for a Thursday night matchup. The Storm continued to prove their dominance, taking down UAM 76-65.

The Southern Nazarene (15-2,12-1 GAC) offense shared the love as four Crimson Storm members saw double-digit scoring nights. This group also contributed to shooting 54.9 percent from the field.

The Weevils (4-15,1-12 GAC) got on the board first after an early trip to the charity stripe. They collected two quick points before Jeremy Glson responded with a three to get SNU on the board. The two squads traded points from there taking turns with the lead.

Baron Bracey and Bam Johnson teamed up for a pair of buckets to give Southern Nazarene a 16-15 lead with 7:27 left to play in the first half. Colby Henderson followed shortly after with a three to keep the Crimson Storm in front.

UAM continued to linger, but a few free throw makes from Timur Krupalija pushed the SNU lead to four. The Weevils added a couple of buckets of their own, but Johnson and Golson responded with a pair of three-pointers to stretch the Crimson Storm lead to six with just 39 seconds left in the first half.

Southern Nazarene forced a late Monticello turnover to get the final possession of the half. Stevie Strong hit a deep three to secure a 37-28 Crimson Storm lead at the halftime break.

UAM opened up the second half at the free throw line, but it was long before Bracey knocked down a jumper to get the SNU offense going again. Golson followed shortly after with another three extending the Storm lead to 42-29. Strong also added another three to his stat line, pushing the SNU lead once more.

The Crimson Storm went to work in the paint as Tracy Godfrey Jr. and Johnson each notched a bucket. Strong remained lethal from three-point range knocking down another triple to pace the SNU offense. Johnson then hit a triple of his own giving the Storm a 62-51 lead with 10:14 left to play.

Southern Nazarene continued to tack on points in the paint before a few final trips to the charity stripe capped off their night. Johnson and Strong collected the last minute free throws helping the Crimson Storm secure the 76-65 win over Arkansas-Monticello.
