BETHANY, Okla.- The Crimson Storm kicked off their 2025 season with games against New Mexico Highlands and Newman at Feland Field. SNU opened the day with a strong win over NMHU before falling short in game two against the Newman Jets.
Game 1
SNU came out swinging in their season opener, taking down New Mexico Highlands 10-4. The offense shined for the Crimson Storm in the fifth and seventh inning.
New Mexico Highlands got on the board first with a three run third inning, but SNU wasted no time responding.
The Storm offense broke through in the bottom of the fifth inning as Jaxon Gless led off with a single to left and Antonio Sabala followed with a walk. Carson Kinnaird drove them both in with a double to left field. Blake Brinkmeyer had a walk to load the bases, while Weston Hicks followed by bringing in another run with a single to center field.
Tucker LeMay notched a bases loaded walk to add another run to the SNU score. Ryan Talley kept the rally going with an infield single tacking on another run. By the end of the fourth inning, the Storm had four runs on four hits and took the lead from the Cowboys.
The bottom of the seventh brought more offense after a Cowboys error. Brinkmeyer helped out with a single to right field, and Hicks was then hit by a pitch to load the bases. LeMay came through with a two run single and Gless added two more run with a hit of his own. The Crimson Storm secured their first win of the season taking down the Cowboys 10-4.
Game 2
SNU looked to ride their momentum into game two, but Newman had other plans, handing the Storm a 13-3 defeat.
Newman got on the board first in the third inning after a sac fly plated one. SNU pitcher Hunter Outlaw shut the Jets down after that, sending the SNU offense to the plate.
The highlight of the game came in the third inning when Tanner Bare stepped up and launched his first home run of the season tying the score at 1-1.
The Jets were able to tack on another run in the fourth to take back the lead after a single to right plated one.
Newman continued to run up their score adding five more runs in the fifth off of a double and a three run home run giving them a 7-1 lead.
The seventh inning saw some late action for the Storm as Colby Flood took advantage of a wild pitch to advance to second base sending Bare home ro score. Moments later, Brinkmeyer walked and another wild pitch allowed Flood to cross home plate. Despite their late effort, the Storm couldn't stop Newman's steady offense as they scored two final runs to secure the run-rule victory, 13-3.
The Crimson Storm now turn their focus to their next matchup as they look to build on their season opening win.

The Storm will face Newman on Saturday, February 1 at 10:00 a.m. at Putnam City High School, followed by a game against New Mexico Highlands at 3:00 p.m. on the same day.
