Storm Falls 5-3 in Conference Opener

SNU Battles Hard But Comes Up Short

WICHITA, KS. - In their first conference matchup of the 2024 season, the Crimson Storm took the field in Wichita, Kansas, against Newman University. It was an intense back and forth battle, but the Storm came up just short with a 5-3 loss to the Jets.

The Jets (4-3, 1-0 GAC) wasted no time getting on the board, with Gustavo Dias Juliani sneaking one past SNU (3-3-1, 0-1 GAC) keeper Andrej Krivokapic with 12:44 on the clock to make it 1-0 just a few minutes into the game. Not long after, Newman doubled their lead with Cameron Schroder's goal, assisted by both Dias Juliani and Caio Tascheto, pushing the score to 2-0 with 19:52 on the clock.

Southern Nazarene wasn't giving up without a fight, though, with Lucas Beja getting a shot off to put some pressure on Newman's defense before halftime, but it just missed. Down 2-0 at the break, the Storm came back ready to shake things up in the second half.

Unaiz Shajani was on fire for SNU, scoring three fast goals to change the game. In just 10 minutes, SNU went from trailing 2-0 to leading 3-2, thanks to Shajani's three goal performance, one of those coming from an assist from Edwin Garcia.

But the Jets weren't going down without a fight on their home field. With 78:10 on the clock, Paulo Villalobos tied it up at 3-3. Newman then took the lead with a couple more goals, as Gabriel Dias Juliani and Alberto Romano each scored late to secure a 5-3 victory.
