SNU Shuts Out Newman 3-0

Storm Bounces Back Strong

BETHANY, Okla.- The Southern Nazarene Women's Soccer team bounced back in style Saturday at Wes Harmon Field, getting the win 3-0 over Newman University after last week's tough loss to the University Central Oklahoma.

Newman (0-5-1, 0-0 MIAA) tried to get on the board early, with Allison Hernandez taking a shot with 4:55 on the board, but SNU's (2-2-1, 0-0 GAC) Gianna Bonnett was quick with the save. SNU's Sam Smith fired back with 8:54 on the clock, but Newman's keeper Carla Apodaca wasn't letting it through.

It wasn't long, though, before the Crimson Storm found their rhythm. Smith slipped one past the Newman defense at 28:43, putting SNU on the board with a 1-0 lead, sending one past the Newman defense to put SNU up 1-0. Bonnett wasn't done either, stopping another close shot from Katherine Wilson with 34:38 on the clock to keep the Crimson Storm in control heading into halftime.

The second half was all SNU. Bella Morgas doubled the lead in the 54th minute with a goal assisted by Marybeth Kessler, making it 2-0. And just ten minutes later, Karla Ramirez sealed the deal with a third goal for the Storm.

Newman tried to fight back, but SNU's defense stayed solid, keeping them off the scoreboard.
