Storm Falls to Pioneers 1-0

Hard fought battle goes to TWU

BETHANY,  Okla. - The Southern Nazarene University Women's Soccer team had their second match of the season, facing off against Texas Woman's University in a hard-fought match. The game ended with a 1-0 victory for Texas Woman's, but it was a battle from start to finish.

From the kick-off, both teams were eager to make their mark. The Storm's (1-1, 0-0 GAC) Natalie Montanez and Quinnlan Edens put in some early shots, but the TWU (2-1, 0-0 LSC) defense led by Amanda Farris held strong. Just 26:00 minutes into the game, Giselle Gutierrez from TWU tested SNU goalkeeper Gianna Bonnett, who made a great save to keep the score knotted at 0-0.

The Storm continued to press the Pioneer defense with shots from Montanez and Edens, but the ball just wouldn't find the back of the net. Bella Alfaro notched a goal for TWU in the final minutes of the first half to lead 1-0 at the break.

SNU came out with energy for the second half. Sam Smith and Karla Ramirez kept the pressure on the Pioneers with shots of their own, but couldn't quite get the ball to go in.

SNU's defense and Bonnett's solid play continued to keep them in the game late into the second half. The clock eventually read zeros and the Pioneers snagged the midweek matchup in Bethany, 1-0.
