BROKEN ARROW, Okla.— The Great American Conference announced their 2023-24 All-Conference awards as four Crimson Storm golfers earned honors. Sam Schmidt was not only named to the All-GAC Honorable Mention team, but was also named a GAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete. Landon Hendrix and Mason Sebrant also joined Schmidt on the Men's Golf Distinguished Scholar Athlete list. On the women's side, Sara Armstrong was also named a Distinguished Scholar Athlete.
This marks the second consecutive year that Sam Schmidt has been named an All-GAC Honorable Mention. Schmidt has played 24 total rounds this year with an average score of 74. He ranks 66th in the region and earned an individual title at the GAC Preview last September. Schmidt won the GAC Preview in a three-hole playoff after shooting -11 for the tournament, which was just two strokes off of the SNU 54-hole record.
Along with Schmidt's All-Conference performance, he was also named a Distinguished Scholar Athlete. Joining Schmidt on the Distinguished Scholar Athlete list was Landon Hendrix and Mason Sebrant, as well as Sara Armstrong, on the women's side. The distinction is awarded to eligible student-athletes participating in the championship field with at least a 3.70 GPA and 70 hours of completed classwork.
The Crimson Storm are currently competing in the GAC Championship tournament in Broken Arrow. The tournament is set to conclude on Tuesday afternoon.
