SPRINGFIELD, Mo.—The Southern Nazarene University Women's Golf team finished off their final tournament ahead of the GAC Championships on Tuesday afternoon. The Crimson Storm finished 17th in the ATU Spring Region Preview at the Rivercut Golf Course.
After finding themselves in 15th after round one, SNU dropped to 17th in round two, where they would stay through the remainder of the tournament. They finished just six strokes from 15th place. Henderson State won the tournament by 18 strokes over Arkansas Tech. They were led by individual champion Jenna Boonbumroongsuk.
The Crimson Storm were paced by Hannah Torres. Torres had a phenomenal round one, where she shot even-par (72) to put her tied for 3rd on the leaderboard. She struggled to keep the pace in rounds two and three, shooting 81 and 80 to finish with a three-round score of 233 for T-29th. She finished the tournament with 8 birdies.
Haley Whittern finished second on the Storm with a T-46 finish. She shot 82-77-79 over her three rounds for a final total of 238.
Sara Armstrong, Natalie Lewis, and Hallie Schultz were all close together on the leaderboard to round out the SNU lineup. Armstrong shot 254 (85-89-80) to finish T81, Lewis posted a three-round score of 257 (84-88-85) to finish solo 83rd, and Schultz was two strokes behind at 259 (86-82-91) for a T-85 finish.
The Storm now turn their attention to the Great American Conference Championship tournament. The GAC Championships are set for April 21-23 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma at the Club at Forest Ridge. Last year, SNU found themselves in third after one round of the GAC Championships, but ultimately finished 6th in the nine-team conference field.
