Bulldogs Snag Three From the Storm

SWOSU claims the series sweep as the Storm falls in a tough series

WEATHERFORD, Okla. - The Crimson Storm traveled to Southwestern Oklahoma State to take on the Bulldogs for a three-game conference series. The Storm was unable to weather a tough Bulldogs squad as they took the series sweep over SNU.

Game 1

A walkoff heartbreaker would be the result of the opening game of the series as the Bulldogs (18-16, 10-11 GAC) singled through the right side to claim the victory over the Storm (10-24, 5-16 GAC).

The contest remained scoreless as Levi Graham held SWOSU off through three innings of work. The Storm would be the first to tally a run as Chase Hudson singled to plate two. The Bulldogs responded, cutting the lead in half after a solo blast in the fourth.

SNU lengthened their lead after the Bulldogs sent a runner home thanks to a bases loaded hit by pitch. Gunner Phillips took over for Graham delivering a scoreless inning to begin his time on the mound.

The Bulldogs knotted the score up at three after they sent a two-run home run over the left field wall. SWOSU then jumped out in front after an SNU error to take the 4-3 lead. The Bulldogs did not stop there as they plated three more runs on a bases clearing double to extend their lead to 7-3.

The Storm was unphased as they got three runs back in the top of the seventh to tie the score thanks to a sac fly, a Weston Hicks two-run bomb, and a Tucker LeMay double. The Bulldogs and Storm went back and forth until SWOSU was able to take the lead and the walk-off victory on a single through the right side to win it 9-8.

Game 2

Southern Nazarene looked to even the series in the second game of matchup. The Bulldogs shut down any chance of a Storm series victory as they took down SNU once again for a second victory.

Southwestern OSU set the tone early as they plated two runs in the first inning. They kept their foot on the gas with a five-run second inning that stretched their lead to 7-0. The Storm struggled to find an offensive response, but Gabriel Sanchez settled in on the mound delivering a scoreless frame.

The Bulldogs were able to add on to their lead plating another run fourth after an SNU throwing error. The Storm finally got a run on the board after LeMay singled and a SWOSU error sent Hicks home. SNU tacked on one more run thanks to a sac fly from Colby Entwistle to trail 8-2.

The Storm continued their offensive burst with a double down the right field line from Blake Brinkmeyer to put them within five in the sixth. SNU was able to hand the Bulldogs a scoreless frame before they extended their lead on a double in the seventh. They would go on to add one final run in the eighth to take the 11-3 victory over SNU to claim the series win.

Game 3

Southern Nazarene looked to avoid the road sweep, but the Bulldogs had other plans in store. SWOSU pitcher Jackson Phillips held the Storm to just two hits in seven innings of work to secure the sweep for Southwestern OSU.

It was a pitcher's duel from the first pitch as Patrick Hine delivered three scoreless innings on the mound. The Bulldogs followed suit making it difficult for SNU to get a bit of offense going.

SWOSU jumped on the board first as they plated one on a single. They did not stop there as they took advantage of a Storm error to pull ahead 2-0. Hine got back in a groove delivering a scoreless frame in the fifth to hold the score at 2-0.

The Storm continued to struggle to get the bats going, but the Bulldogs added on to their slim lead. A ground ball would be all it took for Southwestern to pull further ahead 3-0. They would go on to plate one more in the bottom of the sixth off a single down the right field line.

That would be all it took for the Bulldogs to secure the victory and claim the series sweep over Southern Nazarene.
