Storm Picks Up Win No. 20

SNU battles with the Reddies to claim their twentieth win in a row

BETHANY, Okla. - In another battle inside the Sawyer Center, the No. 5 ranked Crimson Storm came from behind to take down the Henderson State Reddies. The 56-41 victory over Henderson marked SNU's twentieth win in a row to remain unbeaten this season.

The Crimson Storm (20-0, 14-0 GAC) met the Reddies (13-7, 9-5 GAC) for the second time this season, this time in Bethany. Southern Nazarene defeated Henderson earlier this season on the road in January.

Both squads struggled to get on the board until the Reddies drained a long ball to get on the board first. Lauryn Reither responded, draining a long three to knot the score 3-3. The two squads traded possessions and points before an Abbie Jiles three stretched the SNU lead 11-8.

The Storm went to work in the paint and at the free throw line to continue to tack on points to their side of the scoreboard. Reither found Hannah Giddey to score the final points of the quarter and give the Crimson Storm a 21-14 lead.

The Reddies opened up the second quarter at the foul line collecting two shots. Two HSU three balls put them within just one of the Storm at 23-22. Back-to-back Jiles jumpers gave Southern Nazarene a five-point lead.

Henderson continued to respond, but Jillian Crawford snagged a steal and laid one in on a fast break to push the Storm ahead 29-24 before HSU called a timeout. The Storm continued to pile on the points in the paint to give them a 33-26 lead at the half.

The Reddies came out shooting, draining two long balls to trail by just three. Jiles made her way to the foul line hitting both shots to push SNU ahead once again. Henderson took over offensively, going on an 8-0 run to take the lead for the first time in the contest, 42-39.

Carley Gasaway knocked down two free throws to put the Storm within one with 2:30 left to play in the third quarter. The Reddies would hit another three ball to lead 47-45 going into the final quarter.

Giddey tied the score 47-all to open up the final quarter. HSU snagged back the lead with a jumper and another three-ball. Adams came up clutch with a three of her own to tie the score once more at 52-52. Emily Monaghan then drew an and-one foul making the three-point play to put SNU ahead.

The two squads continued to trade points and the lead before Jiles found Monaghan in the corner who hit a big three to erupt the Sawyer Center and push the Storm ahead 62-57. The Reddies chipped away to cut the lead to two. Monaghan would collect the final five points for the Storm to secure the victory 67-62 over the Reddies.

Monaghan was outstanding for SNU posting 21 points. Reither followed with 15 points of her own and 10 rebounds to collect a double-double. Giddey continued her double-double tear, collecting her ninth of the season with 11 points and 14 rebounds.
