Tiger Take Down

The Storm defeats the Tigers inside the Sawyer Center, 63-49

BETHANY, Okla. - Southern Nazarene continued its home stint inside the Sawyer Center Saturday afternoon for an in-state match-up with the East Central Tigers. The Storm offense continued to prove why they are one of the nation's best taking down the Tigers 63-49.

The Storm (23-1, 18-1 GAC) took down the Tigers (7-15, 3-15 GAC) in Ada earlier this season. The Tigers contained the Storm for the first quarter before SNU exploded for a 23-point second quarter. Southern Nazarene struggled to shoot from beyond the arc forcing them to test East Central in the paint.

The Tigers jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter to lead SNU 8-4. The Storm went to work in the paint and at the free throw tacking on the points to go ahead of East Central 11-10 after one quarter of play.

Hannah Duncan opened up the second quarter with a layup to push the SNU lead 13-10. The Tigers continued to hang around before Abbie Jiles laid one in and drew the and one to extend the SNU lead. Southern Nazarene continued to drop in points in the paint as well as a big three ball from Jena Bay

SNU continued to work in the paint for the remainder of the quarter stretching their lead. Bay found an open Jiles who sank a three-ball to end the second quarter pushing the Storm lead 34-21 at the break.

East Central drained a three to begin the third quarter. The duo of Lauryn Reither and Hannah Giddey began to heat up in the paint. ECU found themselves at the charity stripe to chip away at the Storm lead. Southern Nazarene continued to rule the paint stretching their lead to 11 going into the final quarter.

ECU sank another three to begin the final quarter attempting to make a run at a comeback. A Tiger jumper cut the SNU lead to 44-40. A SNU layup and back-to-back Bay long balls pushed Southern Nazarene's lead back to 12.

The Storm kept their foot on the gas to extend 61-43 with 2:36 left to play in the contest. A few more points from the foul line would seal the deal for the Storm as they walked away with the 63-49 victory over East Central.

Giddey led the way offensively with 14 points to go alongside nine rebounds. Jiles followed suit with 12 points of her own while Bay also collected double-digit scoring with 11 points.
