EDMOND, Okla. — Southern Nazarene had another split day at the UCO/OC festival, winning their first game against Pittsburg State 4-1, but losing their next game against Central Oklahoma,12-1.
Game 1 vs Pittsburg State
Pitt State (8-1, 0-0 MIAA) was the first to score, singling in the first inning to bring one home for the 1-0 start.
Mikayla Oaks responded in the bottom half of the inning, also singling to left field to send home
Liana Heshiki, tying the game at 1-1.
After a few scoreless innings, SNU (4-3, 0-0 GAC) caught fire in the fifth, ignited by a
Hailey Evans double that plated
Emma Green. Oaks singled again to right field, bringing
Noa Dodson across home for the 3-1 lead.
Sydney Sundbye made it a 4-1 lead after her single sent home
Mikayla Oaks moving into the sixth inning.
The teams traded turns at the plate, and Pittsburg State was still unable to get anything going on the offensive end, thanks to the early work in the circle from
Janie Worthington.
Southern Nazarene's 4-1 lead remained in the final two innings with neither team seeing another run, leading to SNU's final 4-1 victory over Pittsburg State.
Worthington pitched a complete game, allowing five hits and one run, while recording two strikeouts.
Oaks went 2-3 at the plate with two RBIs.
Game 2 vs Central Oklahoma
The Storm's (4-4, 0-0 GAC) matchup with the Bronchos (3-4, 0-0 LSC) was a bit different as they only played through five innings, scoring just one run. UCO was able to tack on 12 runs throughout the game, making it a difficult offensive day for the Storm.
The Bronchos began their offensive frenzy early in the first inning, cranking out four runs for the 4-0 lead. The Storm had a tough first at-bat, reaching three quick outs to open more room for the Broncos to add on even more runs in the next inning.
UCO used a few singles, a double, and an SNU error to soar to an 8-0 lead in the bottom of the second. SNU had trouble answering the Bronchos on the offensive end, and UCO continued to add on the runs in the third, dishing out two doubles and another single for four RBIs to reach a 12-0 lead by the end of the third inning.
The Storm finally saw some light in the fourth inning when
Sydney Sundbye singled to the shortstop to plate
Hailey Evans, tacking on a run for the Storm. SNU was already working with two outs before Sundbye's at-bat, but
Maddie Riley's ground out put them at three and that ended the small moment of fire in the fourth inning.
UCO was stumped in the last two innings and they called the game at five total innings with UCO claiming the final 12-1 victory.
