Crimson Storm Battle to Victory in Durant

SNU pulls away in the second half to defeat Southeastern Oklahoma State 66-56

DURANT, Okla. - The Crimson Storm hit the road and came away with a 66-56 win over Southeastern Oklahoma State. It was a back and forth game, but the Crimson Storm turned up the heat to leave the Savage Storm behind.

The first quarter was back and forth as Katie King and Hannah Giddey got SNU (7-4, 4-1 GAC) on the board early. Southeastern Oklahoma State (6-5, 3-2 GAC) answered right back with buckets from Kenzli Warden and Caitlin Kobiske. Braci Nyberg's layup late in the quarter gave the Crimson Storm a lead, 12-10, going into the second quarter.

Southeastern made their mark in the second quarter, with Kaydrin Scott and Bri Wietelman stepping up with buckets and Ashton Hackler notching a few assists to keep the Savage Storm rolling. Jordan Hoffman and Giddey kept SNU fighting to stay in it, and Jena Bay nailed a three to keep things close. By halftime, Southeastern had edged ahead 32-30.

The third quarter SE got on the board first with a layup from Holli Lindley, but Giddey was not letting that slide, answering back with some easy points in the paint. Kenzli Warden kept the Savage Storm in it with a couple more buckets, but SNU's Jillian Crawford and Nyberg knocked down a pair of jumpers, and the Crimson Storm pulled ahead, closing the quarter with a solid 52-41 lead.

In the fourth quarter, Southeastern didn't back down. Warden kept putting up points, and Scott tried to make a move, but Giddey was there, blocking her layup attempt. SNU's defense locked in, as Giddey snagged a few rebounds. Hannah Duncan and Umi Otsuka nailed back to back threes, thanks to a couple of  assists from King and Giddey. A big defensive play by Giddey, including a block and rebound, helped lock things down as the Crimson Storm cruised to a 66-56 victory.
