Storm Falls to No.13 Pittsburg State, 75-57

Late push from SNU falls short against the Gorillas

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - SNU women's basketball had their second game of the season, taking on the No. 13 ranked Pittsburg State Gorillas in the Tip Off Challenge in St. Joseph, Missouri. SNU couldn't quite keep up with the Gorillas, falling 75-57 in their final game of the weekend.

The game started with Pittsburg State (1-1, 0-0 MIAA)  making the first move, grabbing an early 4-0 lead. SNU's (1-1, 0-0 GAC)  Hannah Duncan answered back, hitting a jumper to put the Storm on the board.

The first quarter saw good defense from both teams, with the Storm's Hannah Giddey stepping up with a block. The Gorillas kept it going, ending the quarter ahead, 16-9.

Pitt State kicked off the second quarter by hitting a three point shot from Hannah Nilges, pushing their lead once again. The Storm fought to keep up as Duncan notched a few rebounds. Giddey then came through with some more big blocks but the Gorillas held their ground, ending the half up 37-25.

Coming out of the break, Duncan didn't waste a second, driving to the hoop for a layup to cut into the gap. Giddey followed with a jumper, bringing the Storm back within single digits. Even with some tough defense from SNU, the Gorillas kept pushing and stretched their lead to 53-39 by the end of the third quarter.

In the final quarter PSU continued their push, quickly getting an 18 point lead. SNU didn't back down, with Umi Otsuka and Braci Nyberg each hitting shots to keep the Storm in the game. Nyberg's three, set up and assisted by Giddey, fired up the team in the last minutes, but PSU stayed strong and wrapped up the game with a 75-57 win.
