Storm Fights to a 1-1 Tie Against ECU

SNU's defense holds strong in a hard fought matchup

BETHANY, Okla. - Southern Nazarene and East Central squared off again this time at Wes Harmon Field, battling to a hard-fought 1-1 draw.

It didn't take long for the action to heat up. Just three minutes in, SNU's (6-4-5, 4-2-4 GAC) JQ Molgaard took a shot aiming at the bottom of the goal, but ECU's (5-9-3, 4-4-3 GAC) goalkeeper, Madison Mayhall, was quick to block it. A few minutes later, ECU's Kaylee Bruce had a shot, but SNU's Gianna Bonnett was right there with a great save.

The Tigers managed to break through first, though, with Abbie Morris sliding one past Bonnett with 15:39 on the clock to put the Tigers up 1-0. The Storm didn't stay quiet for long as Bella Morgas, with a great assist from Sam Smith, scored just two minutes later, tying  things up at 1-1.

The Crimson Storm's Ella Adams took a solid shot with 25:42 on the board, but Mayhall blocked it. East Central's Bruce kept the pressure on, forcing Bonnett into another save at 27 minutes.

In the second half,  Bruce's shot with 56:35 on the clock went wide, and Bella Morgas nearly scored for SNU with 73:50 on the clock, but Mayhall stopped it. ECU's Ximena Resendiz made one last attempt with 76:30 on the clock, but Bonnett closed out the game with a clutch save.

Both teams fought hard for that winning goal, but with the defenses on lockdown, the game finished in a close 1-1 tie.
