Storm Clinches Tournament Spot

Late goal forces a draw, but SNU locks in a tournament spot

BETHANY, Okla.- Southern Nazarene and Northwestern Oklahoma State squared off again this time at Wes Harmon Field, battling to a hard-fought 1-1 draw.

Just nine minutes into the game, SNU (6-4-7, 4-2-6 GAC) got the game going as  Natalie Montanez stepped up for a penalty kick. She found the back of the net with ease, giving the Storm an early 1-0 lead.

Northwestern Oklahoma State (2-8-7, 0-5-6 GAC) wasn't going down that easily, though. They fired back with a few close chances, but SNU's keeper, Gianna Bonnett, was ready, snagging shots from Isabella McMillan and Tanah Huffines to keep the Storm in control. Meanwhile, SNU kept pushing for more shots, with Karla Ramirez and Camdyn Wood each taking shots, trying to stretch the lead.

The Storm held onto their lead until 44:52 on the clock when Elie Dang found the back of the net for NWOSU, tying the game at 1-1 just before halftime.

With the last minute goal, the teams headed into the break all tied up.

The second half, the Ranger's kept the shooting going as Isabella McMillan shot high, but SNU answered with a shot of their own right with Ella Adams aiming low. The NWOSU keeper continued to deny the Storm a chance to pull ahead. Montanez gave it another shot, too, but her low shot was stopped by the keeper, keeping things tight.

As the clock wound down, both teams fought hard to break the tie, but neither could find that winning goal. Even with the draw, SNU clinched their spot in the GAC Tournament.
