Storm Battles Hard, Falls 3-2 in Overtime to the Tigers

SNU ties game, but late free kick seals the win for No. 1 Ouachita Baptist

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Southern Nazarene traveled to Arkadelphia to face off with No. 1 seeded Ouachita Baptist in the semi-finals 2024 GAC Championships. The Storm battled into overtime but ultimately fell 3-2 to the Tigers bringing their season to a close.

Just 50 seconds into the match, Ouachita Baptist's Madi Vana, assisted by Abbey Cowgill, slipped one past SNU keeper Gianna Bonnett, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead. At 4:23, Ella Adams responded with a close shot that just missed wide right, keeping OBU goalkeeper Taylor Hapgood on alert.

Sam Smith then aimed for the bottom center, but Hapgood was ready, denying the shot and keeping Ouachita Baptist on top. The teams went back and forth on the shots, but neither could find the back of the net.
Until 25:12, Allison Reece put a shot past Bonnett, extending OBU's lead to 2-0. The Tigers kept the pressure on, but the Storm fought back with determination. Just before halftime, SNU's Natalie Montanez found the net, narrowing the score to 2-1.

Then, another goal for the Crimson Storm came when Ouachita Baptist accidentally knocked one into their own goal, tying the game at 2-2 as the teams headed into halftime. After the half with 52:24 on the clock, a shot from Natalie Montanez went wide to the right. Then, at 57:41 on the board, Ella Adams took a shot from the top right but missed the goal.

Kyler Bowman fired a shot from the left, but she just missed it. The Tigers Hattie Gardner took a shot at 87:18, but the game remained tied at 2-2.

The teams went into the first overtime period, with both sides taking shots but not able to score, leading to a lot of back and forth action. In the second overtime, a foul from the Crimson Storm led to a free kick for Ouachita Baptist with 104:56 on the clock.
