Storm Ties It Up with NSU

A tough battle ends in a 2-2 draw

BETHANY, Okla. - Under the lights at Wes Harmon Field, Southern Nazarene and Northeastern State University had a back and forth battle that ended in a 2-2 draw.

The Storm (8-3-4, 5-1-3 GAC) came out fired up, pushing for an early lead when Junior Duran took a shot to the bottom right of the goal with only seven minutes into the game, only to see it saved by NSU's (2-6-6, 2-3-3 GAC) goalkeeper, Gonzalo Castells.

A minute later, Unaiz Shajani sent a shot that hit off the post. Duran tried again just a few minutes later, but Castells kept his net covered.

Both teams were going back and forth, with SNU's Andrej Krivokapic coming up big to block NSU's nonstop shots. But with 31:49 on the clock, Northeastern State's Javier Solis finally broke through and slipped one in, putting the RiverHawks up 1-0 before halftime.

The Storm came back from halftime ready to go. With 51:08 on the clock, they got a chance with a penalty kick, but Castells made another great save, blocking Francisco Chong's shot.

SNU didn't let that slow them down, just a few minutes later, Shajani snuck one past Castells to tie it up 1-1, with some help from Alex Oropeza and Chong.

The RiverHawks grabbed the lead again with 66:10 on the clock, but SNU wasn't backing down. Juan Solis found the back of the net with 77:29 on the clock, keeping the game alive at 2-2.

With the clock ticking, both teams kept scrapping Krivokapic made a big save on another close NSU shot, and Shajani's attempt with ten minutes left in the game was saved up by Castells.

The Storm kept the energy up and grabbed a hard fought tie to keep things rolling. The Crimson Storm have three more home games left in their 2024 season.
