Crimson Storm Tames the Tigers

SNU stays perfect after taking down Ouachita Baptist on the road

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Crimson Storm continued their road stint at Ouachita Baptist for an afternoon matchup with the Tigers. The Storm went head to head with Ouachita, collecting yet another victory, 75-59.

The No. 7 ranked Storm (12-0, 6-0 GAC) looked to continue their momentum from Thursday's matchup with Henderson State as they took on the Tigers (6-4, 4-2 GAC) of Ouachita Baptist. OBU had seen early success in GAC play this season, taking down Oklahoma Baptist on Thursday evening. A hot offense propelled the Crimson Storm to their twelfth victory of the season, taking down Ouachita by 16 points..

The two squads traded points from tipoff before back-to-back Emily Monaghan long balls gave SNU an 11-4 lead. The Crimson Storm utilized a few chances at the charity stripe to lengthen their lead as well. The Tigers finally got back on the board after just over two minutes without a field goal. The Storm continued to put pressure on the Tiger defense at the end of quarter one leading, 22-14.

The Tigers knocked down two quick shots to begin the second quarter before Monaghan silenced the OBU crowd with a three pointer. Abbie Jiles then hit a three of her own extending the SNU lead, 28-20. A few Ouachita Baptist free throws allowed them to cut down the Storm lead before the half. Southern Nazarene remained in the lead 32-27 at the break.

Ouachita hit two jumpers to begin the second half, cutting the SNU lead to just one. Jena Bay responded with a three to gain some momentum back on the Crimson Storm side of the court. The two squads continued to trade points before Bay found herself at the free-throw line extending the SNU lead once more. From there the Storm went on an 18-0 run, quieting the Tiger's offense. A few more free throws for Southern Nazarene gave them a comfortable lead of 58-37, going into the final quarter.

Ouachita began to chip away at the Storm lead, opening quarter four with back-to-back layups. Monaghan hit yet another long ball, giving SNU a 20-point lead, and silencing the Tiger fans once more. Southern Nazarene's free throws and jumpers continued to extend their lead. Ouachita did not go down without a fight, continuing to put the SNU defense to the test. A few Tiger free throws and jumpers cut the Crimson Storm lead once again, but was not enough to take down the undefeated SNU. The Storm came away with their twelfth victory of the season, 75-59.
