Tough Battle for the Storm Ends in Tie

The Storm and Eagles went head to head in a tense match up that ended in a stalemate

BETHANY, Okla. - The Southern Nazarene University Men's Soccer team faced a tough battle with rivals from down the road Oklahoma Christian. The Storm battled the Eagles for 90- minutes but ended in a stalemate of 0-0. 

In a chippy match to begin the 2023 season, 10 yellow cards were distributed between the two teams, as well as two red cards. Oklahoma Christian (1-0-1, 0-0 LSC) led the game offensively with 12 shots, eight of those being in the first half. The Storm (0-0-1, 0-0 GAC) defense was a force to be reckoned with throughout the entire match. 

Both teams flexed their defensive skills throughout the whole match putting each other to the ultimate test. The SNU defense was not phased and was led by Goalkeeper Andrej Krivokapic. He was able to keep the Eagles off the board and collected seven saves on the day. 

Although no goals were scored throughout the match, the Storm looked to Shu Kato and Miguel Torrecillas to spark something offensively. Each player tallied two shots on the day. The Storm offense continued to fight for the entire 90-minute match. 

Throughout the scrappy match, both teams battled at each end of the field. The Eagles would get multiple chances via corner kicks but the Storm would shut them down. The Eagles had six corner kicks, but none resulted in a goal. The Storm defense was nails defending the heavy shooting Eagles offense.

The Storm is currently receiving votes in the NCAA Division II United Soccer Coaches Poll and looks to break into the top 25 this season. The Storm is coming off of a Great American Conference Championship and is hoping to use that momentum to propel a strong 2023 season.
 

Next Up

The Storm will be back home on September 3, 2023, to take on Southwest Baptist at Wes Harmon Field. The kickoff time is set for 3:00 p.m.
