MONKEY ISLAND, Okla.—The Southern Nazarene Men's Golf team traveled to the beautiful Shangri-La Country Club in Monkey Island for the annual MSSU Fall Invitational.
The teams battled fog and tough conditions, causing day one play to be suspended. They finished up round two on Tuesday before wrapping up the tournament with a full round three on Tuesday, as well. SNU found themselves in 19th after two rounds, as despite a much lower score in round three, the Crimson Storm were unable to climb the leaderboard and were forced to settle for a 19th place finish.
As a team, SNU shot 902 (+38). They followed up a 301 (+13) round one with a 308 (+21) in round two and a much-improved 293 (+5) in round three. Oklahoma Christian ran away with the tournament at 828 (-36). They placed three individuals inside the top-five, and all five players in the lineup shot under-par for the tournament.
Sam Schmidt easily topped the SNU lineup with a 217 (+1) for the tournament. After shooting 75 in round one, he followed up with back-to-back 71s in rounds two and three. He shot up the leaderboard 11 spots in the final round to claim a T-38 finish.
Landon Hendrix and Dawson Dunlap tied on the leaderboard at T-86 with a 228 total. Hendrix started slow with an 80 in round one and an 81 in round two, but exploded for a team best 67 in round three, which included an eagle on the par-5 18th hole. Dunlap shot a solid 71 in round one, but followed that with a 79 and 78, respectively.
Noah Kern was just one shot behind Hendrix and Dunlap. He stayed consistent across three rounds, shooting 75-77-77 for a three-round total of 229. This placed him T-90 on the leaderboard.
Luke Woods rounded out the lineup for the Crimson Storm. He finished with a total of 245 after rounds of 82, 84, and 79.
Southern Nazarene will take three weeks off of tournament play before returning October 16-17 for the NCAA Super Region Preview at the Kickingbird Golf Club in Edmond, Oklahoma.
