Storm Defeats #13 Rogers State

SNU defeats RSU on the road, 1-0, to open GAC/MIAA play

CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Crimson Storm Men's Soccer team hit the road to take on the No. 13 Hillcats of Rogers State in their opening GAC/MIAA contest. The Storm stayed to their game and came out on top, 1-0.

The Storm (3-2-2, 1-0 GAC) and the Hillcats (3-2-2, 0-1 GAC) battled for the entire match. This marks the 15th meeting between the two teams, making for an intense match to start conference play. The Storm came out on top in the previous meeting between the two, 1-0. The Storm looked to continue their success against the Hillcats in a competitive battle.

The Storm came out shooting early looking to strike first. SNU tallied seven shots in the first half while RSU only tallied two. The Storm stayed aggressive against a tough Hillcat defense but eventually got by them. Unaiz Shajnai punched one in to score the first goal of the match. This put the Storm ahead at the half 1-0.

The Hillcats came out shooting to start the second half. The Storm were more quiet in the second half only collecting one shot, while the Hillcats had 11. This did not phase the Storm; they continued to worry about themselves. The single goal from Shajani would be all it took for the Storm to seal the deal and come away with a victory.

The Storm defense helped ease the load of goalkeeper Andrej Krivokapic. Krivokapic only tallied six saves on the night thanks to the work of defenders Alvaro Sanchez, Leonardo Schulz, Esteban Ramirez, and Augustine Seaver

The combination of a solid defense and composed offense allowed the Storm to come away with a win over top-ranked Rogers State.

Next Up
