BETHANY, Okla. – Southern Nazarene University officially announces the introduction of Stunt as its newest varsity sport and
Angela Hamilton is tabbed as the program's new head coach.
Hamilton is no stranger to the SNU Athletic Department as she has served on the Cheer Coaching staff for her second season now, just recently filling the role as head coach for the upcoming 2023-2024 season. Hamilton's experience and success with SNU Cheer made her an easy choice for Athletic Director Danny Thomason during his process of finding the right person to lead SNU Stunt.
"Whenever an Athletic Director wants to grow a particular program or start something completely new, the most important thing is to find the right person to lead it", says Thomason. "
Angela Hamilton has shown in less than a year when we began to dream of an expanded Cheer program and beginning a competitive Stunt program, that she was the choice to get us started off right!"
Hamilton has already started making a name for the newly added Stunt Program, leading her team to a first-place finish at the UCA College Camp over the summer. Stunt plans to continue its success with the start of the season in January of 2024, competing in tournaments at Oklahoma Baptist, Oklahoma Christian, and Dallas Baptist to name a few.
Hamilton's experience with the sport came from her years of holding private cheer and tumbling lessons for athletes. She also committed nine years herself competing in both high school and competitive cheer.
"I am so grateful for this opportunity that SNU has given me to step into both the head cheer and STUNT the Sport coaching positions", said Angela. "Being a part of the SNU family is special to me because of the long family history I have here at SNU, the incredible community, and the outpouring of support I have felt over the past year. Our program is blessed to have the best coaching staff and 25 outstanding athletes this year. I look forward to building this program both spiritually and athletically. God is up to something big here at SNU!"
Angela is married to her husband Eric. They have two children, Lainey and Asher. She enjoys going to her children's multiple sporting events, camping, and her involvement with Bethany First Church of the Nazarene.
