SNU Falls in Series Opener

Storm fall 14-6 to OBU in last series-opener of the season

BETHANY, Okla. — Opening their final series of the season, Southern Nazarene dropped the first game of three to Oklahoma Baptist, falling 14-6.

Sitting in seventh in the GAC standings The Bison (16-15, 26-19 GAC) walked into today's contest looking for a victory, hoping to increase their chances of getting the final spot in the GAC Tournament. Sitting in 11th in the standings, the Storm (6-25, 15-33 GAC) missed that mark, looking to close out the season on a high note.

The Bison broke out the scoring in the opening inning from a single and a wild pitch, putting two runs on the board to open the series.

Southern Nazarene came out firing in the bottom half of the inning, cracking out three hits early that would fill the bases and eventually bring in a run. The run was courtesy of Weston Hicks' single to left field that pushed lead-off batter Cole Embrey home.

After a scoreless second inning, the Bison ignited their offense with a double and two-RBI homer, pushing their lead to 5-1.

OBU exploded for another home run in fifth, this time, a solo bomb in their first at-bat of the inning to lead 6-1 just before reaching a quick three outs.

SNU still struggled to bring any batters home after their first inning run while OBU continued to capitalize, tacking on another score in the sixth off a single to lead the Storm 7-1.

The Bison did not stop at the plate, cracking out hit after hit to score five runs in the seventh inning, building a 12-1 lead over SNU. The Storm escaped the run rule after Tyler Broyles fired a three-RBI single, closing the gap to 12-4.

The Bison earned a nine-run lead after another home run in the eighth, bumping their lead to 13-4. SNU couldn't catch fire in the bottom half of the inning, heading to the final stanza down by nine.

Keeping up their impressive hitting day, OBU put up a few more in the ninth inning that scored another run, reaching a 14-4 lead. Faced with the challenge of overcoming the ten-run deficit, SNU was only able to lessen the gap by two runs, losing to OBU by 14-6.

Southern Nazarene will close out its season Saturday, April 29th with a noon doubleheader with OBU. The Storm will also celebrate senior day before the start of the game.
