ARKADELPHIA, Ark.—Southern Nazarene was unable to complete the series sweep on Sunday afternoon after Ouachita Baptist erupted for nine runs in the sixth inning to take a 12-4 six inning victory.
Heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, SNU held a 4-3 advantage, but they simply could not get out of the inning. Ouachita racked up eight hits and took advantage of one SNU error and one hit by pitch during the rally.
The Crimson Storm struck first with two runs in the top of the second inning, but Ouachita quickly responded with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Both runs were unearned after an early throwing error proved costly.
Ouachita took a 3-2 lead in the third inning thanks to a solo homerun, but SNU tied the game the following inning on a Hannah Morales sacrifice fly. Tied at 3, neither team scored again until the sixth inning. In the top half of the sixth, Hailey Evans blasted another home run that momentarily gave SNU the lead. Unfortunately for the Crimson Storm, the lead did not last long as Ouachita led off the bottom half of the sixth with a triple and never looked back.
Evans recorded two of SNU's four hits in the game.
Despite the loss, Southern Nazarene has now clinched a spot in the GAC Championship tournament thanks to a Henderson State loss to Oklahoma Baptist. Currently in seventh, SNU could land anywhere between sixth and eighth place in the conference. They are left with one home series next weekend against Harding. The Bisons are currently second in the conference. The teams will play a single game on Friday at 3:00 PM before meeting for a Saturday double-header at 12:00 PM. Saturday's game will mark Senior Day for the Crimson Storm as they will be honoring seniors Brooklyn Sullivan and Rachael Weiss.
