Storm erase losing skid after defeating ECU 12-1 in Ada

ADA, Okla. — Looking to end a 12-game losing skid, Southern Nazarene did just that, knocking off East Central over in Ada, 12-1, by run rule.

The Storm (15-28, 6-21 GAC) have been on a cold stretch as of late but found their fire in Ada after serving the Tigers (8-35, 3-24 GAC) a 12-1 loss, powered by nine SNU hits and holding ECU to just two.

The Storm struck first in the second inning when an East Central error sent Noah Edmond home for the 1-0 lead.

East Central returned the favor in the fourth inning off of an SNU error, tying the ballgame at one apiece.

SNU regained the lead in the fourth when Drake Irby flied out to right field, advancing Dax Edmonds home.

From there, SNU could not be stopped scoring three more runs in the sixth from a hit-by-pitch and Tyler Broyles' two-RBI single to center field.

East Central could not stop the deficit and SNU took advantage, exploding for six runs in the seventh inning. DJ Van Atten started the onslaught with his two-RBI single to send SNU up to an 8-1 lead.

Dax Edmonds' triple and an ECU wild pitch moved SNU to a 10-1 advantage, inching closer to a run rule.

Peyton Vinyard tacked on two more runs with his single to shortstop, giving Drake Irby and Broyles the trip home and SNU a 12-1 lead.

SNU pitcher Parker Presley put the Tigers in a tough spot in the bottom seventh, striking out two batters back-to-back. ECU popped up to reach the third out and put the run rule in full effect. Closing the game out in seven, SNU picked up the 12-1 victory.

Both Van Atten and Edmonds finished 2-4 with two RBIs. Cobey Gorrell earned the win on the mound, recording three strikeouts and only allowing a single run. Gorrell improved to 1-0 on the season.

Southern Nazarene will be back to GAC play on April 21st for a doubleheader with Ouachita Baptist at noon. SNU will close that series the following Saturday also at noon.
