Storm Fall Short in Claremore

Hillcats get the walk-off single for the 9-8 victory over SNU

CLAREMORE, Okla. — Taking a mid-week break from conference play, Southern Nazarene dropped Wednesday's game to Rogers State, who pulled off a walk-off single to win the game by a single run, 9-8.

The Storm (13-16, 5-10 GAC) built an early lead though the first three innings, but the Hillcats (18-8, 6-7 GAC) rallied late in the game to erase the 8-8 tie in the 9th, making this their 11th win over the Storm in series history.

SNU led 4-0 in the top of the 4th, brought on by a few good hits and some costly errors by the Hillcats. Rogers State flipped the score in the next two innings, putting up three singles, a double, and a huge two-RBI homerun that put them ahead of the Storm, 8-4.

In the 6th inning, Colby Entwistle fired a triple to right center, allowing him to score on an RSU error while bumping his teammates Weston Hicks and DJ Van Atten home.

Trailing by one run, Sebastian Figga's ground-out advanced Entwistle home, tying the game at eight a piece in the top of the 8th.

The final inning went in favor of the Hillcats who put up a single to left field to give the the third baseman the trot home, gaining the walk-off win on their home field.

SNU resumes GAC play this weekend as they travel to Monticello, Arkansas to face the Weevils on Friday, March 24th for a single game at 2 p.m. and a noon doubleheader on Saturday, March 25th.
