BETHANY, Okla. — After defeating Bacone College twice this season, SNU hosted another doubleheader with the Warriors (0-13, 0-0 CONF ) Tuesday afternoon at Putnam City High School, earning another 2-0 day as they defeated the Warriors 11-10 in Game 1 and then 12-14 in Game 2. The Storm's (13-12, 5-7 GAC) two wins on Tuesday earned them the 4-0 record over Bacone College this year.
Game 1
It was a game of back-and-forth action as when one squad scored, the other answered. The Storm opened the first inning with a 4-2 lead over the Warriors, brought on by the bats of DJ Van Atten and Weston Hicks. The Warriors reclaimed the lead in the second, breaking out a couple of hits that were good for three runs. A hit from Colby Entwistle and a sacrifice fly from Van Atten put SNU back on top at 6-5 after the second.
The Warriors tied the ballgame at six a piece in the third from a single with bases loaded. The Storm built a two run lead in the bottom half of the inning from a Jonathan Crist double and a Cole Embrey fly out.
The Warriors tied the game ovine again in the fifth from two singles, putting the game at 8-8. SNU's scoring was stalled in the fifth inning, allowing Bacone to a two-run lead in the sixth at 10-8. SNU's Dax Edmonds kept SNU alive in the bottom half of the inning with a single up the right side for two runs.
In the last inning, Bacone couldn't get much going at the plate and SNU was left with the last chance at victory. With runners on first and second, DJ Van Atten hit a monster double to center field pushing Noah Edmond all the way home for the walk-off victory, at 11-10.
Van Atten had quite the day at-bat, finishing with a perfect 4-4 with two RBIs and two doubles.
Game 2
The Warriors got up to a 2-0 start before Colby Entwistle's single plated Dax Edmonds for the 2-1 trail. The Warriors made a 4-1 game after a big triple to center field earned them two RBIs. Tanner Bare brought the Storm within two runs in the second inning from a solo homerun to left field. SNU could not be stopped, firing two more homeruns from the bats of O'Shea Whiteside and Dax Edmonds to take the 5-4 lead.
Through the next three and a half innings, not a single team recorded a run, making it a game at the bump. The Storm quickly turned the tables in the sixth inning as O'Shea Whiteside's ground out gave SNU some wiggle-room as he scored Drake Irby for the 6-4 lead. Van Atten stayed hot at the plate, putting up a homerun straight to centerfield for two RBIs, blowing their lead top to 8-4.
The Storm went on a scoring spree from there with Bare and Noah Edmond each putting up a single to bump SNU's lead up to 11-4. A Warrior error gave SNU another run on the board and the Storm were quick to get the eight-run lead just before they reached their third out.
The Warriors couldn't answer in the top of the 7th and SNU got another victory to the schedule, winning Game 2, 12-4.
