SNU blows past Ouachita Baptist in the 83-60 road win, improving to seven straight wins

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Southern Nazarene continued its winning streak Sunday afternoon after dominating Ouachita Baptist with a 83-60 road victory.

Already with six straight wins under their belt, The Storm (17-4, 14-1 GAC) made it seven in the win over the Tigers (9-10, 6-9 GAC), controlling the game from first tip to then put the Tigers away by outscoring them 26 to 14 in the fourth quarter. SNU's shining numbers made it difficult for the Tigers all game long as the Storm shot 54% from the field and swished 20 of their 23 free throw attempts. SNU's defense also came in clutch as they scored 27 points off of 15 Ouachita turnovers.

SNU came in firing on all cylinders in quarter one, knocking down nine of their 13 field goals with a perfect 3-3 from the charity stripe. The Storm's fast pace earned them the 23-15 lead after the first 10 minutes.

The Tigers gained some momentum in the second, scoring 21 points to SNU's 20, largely contributed by their 6-8 free throw shooting and seven made field goals. The Storm still held on to their advantage moving into halftime, leading the Tigers 43-36.

SNU grew quiet in the third quarter, only scoring one field goal through the first seven minutes. Free throws helped the Storm to tack on a few points and keep their lead alive, but Ouachita capitalized and brought the game within one point midway through. SNU put a stop to this the rest of the quarter, going on a small scoring run to help put them back up by 11 at 57-46 at the end of the third.

Ouachita's attempt at a comeback was quickly denied as SNU brought the heat from everywhere on the floor. Nine total field goals, seven made free throws, and a total 26 points put up by SNU was too much for the Tigers to handle and the Storm were left to go home with an 83-60 road win.

Cassandra Awatt was all over the place, scoring 26 points and adding in nine boards and three steals.

Georgia Adams also brought in the numbers with 17 points and eight boards.

Emily Monaghan finished with 14 points and two boards while Payton Jones added in 10 points and a steal.

SNU returns home for three consecutive home contests, taking on its toughest opponent, Harding, this season on Thursday, February 9th with a 5:30 p.m. tip time. SNU lost to Harding previously this season by 10 in Searcy, Arkansas.
