Day Two Bounce Back

SNU Softball gets back in win column with a sweep of day two at Alvy Early Classic

BENTONVILLE, Ark.—Southern Nazarene bounced back from their two losses yesterday with a pair of wins over William Jewell and Lincoln on Saturday afternoon on day two of the Alvy Early Classic.

Game 1:

Like Friday, the offense struggled to get going, but they came through just enough on Saturday with three runs to take the 3-1 win in game one of the day against William Jewell.

Both teams were held scoreless through four innings, but Natalie Jones finally got the scoring started with an RBI single in the top of the fifth inning. SNU regained the lead in the sixth after taking advantage of an error and a pair of passed balls that led to a pair of runs for McKayla Franks and Maddie Southerland.

Southern Nazarene's Jones was the lone player in the game to record multiple hits.

Olivia Hernandez pitched a gem in the circle, notching the first complete game of her career. She struck out an incredible 14 batters and allowed just 2 hits.

Game 2:

Southern Nazarene used another incredible performance in the circle in game two to pick up a 4-1 win over Lincoln University.

Maddie Southerland earned the win after pitching six innings and allowing just 1 run on 3 hits. Jayleigh Totten picked up the save after she worked a clean seventh inning.

SNU struck first in the second inning when a Hannah Morales fielder's choice brought home McKayla Franks. Lincoln tied the game in the third inning, but Southern Nazarene tacked on three runs in the fifth inning take the lead for good.

Southern Nazarene put up 9 hits in the game, their most in the four games over the weekend. Liana Heshiki led the way with two hits, while 7 other Storm hitters notched one hit in the game.
