SNU takes care of business in their last regular season road game against Arkansas Monticello

MONTICELLO, Arkansas — Southern Nazarene Football left a lasting mark in Monticello Saturday afternoon , exploding for a 41-14 win in their last road game of the regular season.

The Storm (5-5, 5-5 GAC) put up up nearly 600 yards of total offense against the Weevils (2-8, 2-8 GAC), 132 of those yards coming from Gage Porter who broke the SNU All-Time Rushing record on Saturday, needing just 10 yards going into the game. A 21-point second quarter gave SNU the boost they needed to keep the Weevils away all four quarters and they earned their fifth win on the season.

A scoreless first quarter turned into an offensive party for the Crimson Storm who put up 21 points in the second quarter alone. The scoring frenzy started quick with Jarvis Davis finding a gap from the UAM4 and taking it straight to the end zone for the score. Midway through the second quarter, Southern Nazarene found the end zone again from another short drive as Gage Porter marched right in from UAM3 to put SNU ahead 14-0.

The Weevils were able to put up an 8-play, 74-yard drive in the possession after but the Storm defense forced them to punt. The Weevils' defense returned the favor in SNU's next possession when Porter got picked off on 3rd and 4 and Taylor Collins ran it back for the 59 yard touchdown.

Now ahead by just a single score, the Crimson Storm decided to raise the intensity with two minutes left in the half. SNU began their march down the field from their own 26 yard line. Jarrell Farr's 69 rushing touchdown was called back from an SNU holding call, but Gage Porter made up for it a few snaps later when he capped off the drive with a score from the UAM1.

Porter's score in the final moments of the half put SNU ahead 21-7 going into halftime.

Neither team could get much action going in the start of the third quarter, but SNU finally reignited their offense with seven minutes to-go in the third quarter. The Storm ripped out a 9-play, 80-yard drive that ended with Gage Porter finding an opening to tack on another rushing touchdown, extending SNU's lead to 27-7.

The Weevils were able to sneak in a touchdown past the Storm with the three minutes remaining in the third quarter, finding an open Arlie Lee who ran it in for 36 yards.

Southern Nazarene continued their drive from the end of the third quarter and opened the fourth quarter with more offensive fireworks when Porter found an open Dalen Smith who ran it into the end zone for 35 yards.

The teams traded punts and SNU was back with the ball with minutes left on the clock. The Storm organized a huge 10-play 64-yard drive that had the Weevil defense in disarray and Jarvis Davis danced his way to the end zone for the seven-yard touchdown.

Now ahead 41-14, UAM was only left with a minute and a half left to chip away at the deficit. The Weevils' final drive was spoiled by Aaron Randle interception and the Storm walked out of Monticello with the huge 41-14 victory.

Aside from breaking the All-Time Rush record, Porter achieved 326 yards by himself and totaled three touchdowns. Davis also had a great day with 98 total yards and two touchdowns.

Smith totaled 134 receiving yards against the Weevils.
