Storm Earns Their Second Victory

SNU defeats Minot State to finish the Central Region Crossover Challenge

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The Crimson Storm returned to the court for their final game of the Central Region Challenge to battle the Beavers of Minot State. The Storm continued their hot streak, taking down the Beavers, 60-42.

The Storm (2-0,0-0 GAC) had met Minot State (1-4, NSIC 0-0) one other time before they met this season. SNU defeated the Beavers during the 2019-2020 season in Bethany, 77-46. The Crimson Storm looked to come home with two victories in the Central Region Challenge and did exactly that.

Southern Nazarene got off to a hot start, soaring to a 6-0 run to begin the game. A few three-pointers from Lauryn Reither and Abbie Jiles stretched the Storm's lead. A few more SNU points from Jiles and Hannah Giddey brought the quarter to an end with Storm ahead 18-7.

Minot State continued to try to cut the deficit after going on a 6-0 run early in the second quarter. The Storm continued to look to Giddey and Jiles as well as Shannon Burton to get their offense back on track. SNU got back in rhythm offensively, ending the half with a lead of 28-19.

Jiles and Emily Monaghan got the Storm going to begin the second half. They both hit quick jumpers to extend the SNU lead to 32-21. The Crimson Storm continued to ramp up the offense with a few made layups and a Jena Bay three to enter the third quarter with a lead of 45-31.

Monaghan opened the fourth quarter with a killer three that continued the SNU scoring frenzy. Minot State did not go away easy, scoring little by little, but it was nowhere near enough to catch the Storm. Southern Nazarene tacked on a few more points thanks to easy layups and a good three-pointer from Hannah Duncan. That would be all it took to finish off the Beavers and take the victory, 60-42.

Jiles led the Storm offensively with a total of 11 points while Hanah Giddey collected 7 points, 5 assists, and 11 rebounds.
