A Tie with the Tigers

The Storm battled but could not snag the lead in Arkadelphia

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Crimson Storm hit the road to Arkansas to take on the Ouachita Baptist Tigers. In a hard-fought battle of back-and-forth goals, neither team was able to hold onto their lead, causing a final draw of 3-3.

The Storm (8-3-4, 4-2-3 GAC) came out shooting early looking to seek revenge after Ouachita (8-1-7, 5-1-4 GAC) defeated them earlier this season, 2-0. Natalie Montanez struck first for the Crimson Storm in the 17th minute giving them an early lead, 1-0. Montanez used a free kick to sneak one past the OBU goalie to score and snag the lead. Montanez found the back of the net again on a Kyler Bowman assist to stretch the SNU lead.

The Storm entered halftime with a 2-0 lead over the Tigers. Ouachita outshot Southern Nazarene 10-8 but was held off the scoreboard by a tough Storm defense.

OBU looked to answer back in the second half and did just that. The Tigers scored in the first 15 minutes of the second half to shrink the deficit to 2-1. Ouachita continued to put pressure on the Crimson Storm scoring again to tie the score, 2-2. OBU did not waste time and scored again seven minutes later, taking the lead, 3-2.

Just when the Tigers thought they sealed the deal, Bella Morgas got her head on a ball to sink in a goal in the 89th minute of the match. Morgas' goal tied the match, 3-3, leaving the match to end in a draw.

Both the Crimson Storm and Tiger offense had success during the match. Both teams totaled double-digit shots, OBU with 17 and SNU with 10. The Storm defense was also hard at work, taking some of the load for keeper Gianna Bonnett. Bonnett only tallied one save in the match.
