DENTON, Texas — Southern Nazarene Men's Rugby had a successful Saturday in Denton last weekend, shutting out North Texas, 48-0.
The heavy defense presence from the Storm caused problems for the Mean Green, who failed to score a single point in the match.
The experience of Southern Nazarene's upperclassmen was a large contributor to the win on Saturday as they set the tone of composure and professionalism that was no match for a still-improving UNT squad. The Storm were persistent in making field position and possession difficult for North Texas and the Mean Green were never able to establish an attack.
SNU dominated in set pieces, never losing a set piece and stealing several UNT line-outs and scrums.
Graduate student from Iowa State,
Sam Miller, led in tries for the Storm with two. Martin Mdingi,
Luis Camacho,
Sam Wells,
Xander Burleigh, and
Tervarious Massie all tallied a try against UNT.
Josh Robertson also had a standout performance, scoring five conversions that equated to 10 points. Robertson also tallied a penalty kick, good for three points.
Southern Nazarene will be back at the SNU Rugby Pitch on Saturday, October 7th for a match with Drury University. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
