SHAWNEE, Okla. — Southern Nazarene earned its 10th conference victory Monday night after their powerhouse of an offense shut out rival Oklahoma Baptist 84-61 in Shawnee.
The Storm (13-4, 10-1 GAC) had one impressive offensive evening, splashing 12 total threes and putting up a 55% shooting clip. The Bison (11-6, 7-4 GAC) took the blow early and could never recover, getting outscored all four quarters for the ultimate 23-point defeat.
SNU was off to the races right from first tip with all five starters scoring three minutes into the contest. Hitting 8-16 from the field and a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line, the Storm jumped ahead 22-15 after the first quarter.
The shots continued to fall for SNU in the second, keeping OBU far enough away from closing the gap. A scoreless two minutes between both squads didn't hurt the Storm at all as they outscored the Bison 16-12, heading into halftime up 38-27.
SNU stayed consistent out of the break, keeping OBU from touching any sort of lead while taking advantage of every scoring opportunity. Lighting it up from deep, the Storm knocked down five triples in the third which contributed to a 63-47 lead with one final quarter left up for grabs.
The story stayed the same in the final 10 minutes. OBU put together a few good possessions to help fight the deficit, but SNU's lead was just too great. An SNU 7-0 run midway through put the icing on the cake and OBU could not recover in the final few minutes remaining, leaving SNU to walk away with the final 84-61 victory.
Hannah Giddey led in scoring with 16 points followed by six assists and two blocks.
Georgia Adams was after her, finishing with 14 points, two assists, and two steals.
Emily Monaghan contributed 13 points, three boards, two assists, and two steals.
Lexie Reihm stepped up big off the bench, chipping in 12 points and three boards.
Lauryn Reither added in 11 points and a season-high nine assists.
SNU will be back in action Thursday, January 26th as they host Arkansas-Monticello at 5:30 p.m.
