SEARCY, Ark. — Southern Nazarene's win streak came to an end Saturday afternoon after losing a tough battle to Harding.
Coming off of a huge overtime win over Arkansas Tech the previous Thursday, the Storm (10-4, 7-1 GAC) had another big-time matchup ahead of them, set to play Harding who had defeated the top-ranked Oklahoma Baptist a game prior. The Bisons (11-4, 7-1) took the lead over SNU early and never looked back, surviving the Storm with 11 more rebounds and five more made-field goals.
Harding took a seven-point lead at the end of the first quarter at 20-13, but SNU battled back in the second, bringing the game as close as three with just under three minutes to go in the second quarter. The Bisons hit the last two field goals of the half, extending their lead to five at 36-31 to close the first 20 minutes.
Cassandra Awatt opened the second half with a three-ball to cut Harding's lead down to just two points. The Bisons continued to take advantage on offense, getting up to an 11-point lead midway through the third. The Storm persisted in the comeback, cutting the deficit back to six points with one final quarter to go.
Keeping Harding's lead small in the first five minutes of the fourth didn't last long as the Bisons went on a 10-0 run that put them back up by 10 with under four minutes remaining.
In the final minute, SNU continued to fight, but Harding's lead was there to stay and they came out on top with the 75-65 victory over SNU.
Georgia Adams led in scoring with 18 points, adding in five boards as well.
Awatt finished with a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Hannah Giddey also scored 14 to go along with eight rebounds and three blocks.
Emily Monaghan finished with 12 points and two rebounds.
SNU will be looking for a bounce-back win come Wednesday, January 18th as they head to Durant for a matchup with Southeastern Oklahoma State at 5:30 p.m.
