SNU Drops Match to Eagles

A nail-biting match ends in a slim 2-1 OC win

EDMOND, Okla. — Southern Nazarene faced a tough match Saturday evening, dropping to Oklahoma Christian 1-2 in a nail-biting affair on Eagle Soccer Field. OC was not an easy matchup, considering the Eagles have put up a 3-0 start to the 2022 season prior to Saturday night's win. SNU battled till the buzzer sounded, but OC pulled off a score in the final few minutes, leaving SNU little time to turn the tide.

The first 45 minutes of the match featured a defensive lockdown as neither team could gain an offensive edge. A couple of shots were exchanged here and there, but the defense was just too strong by both squads, leading to a scoreless match at the half.

Things got interesting in the second half, largely brought on by the nine yellow cards administered throughout that entire half. The Storm (1-2-1, 0-0 GAC) finally broke the seal early in the half as Unaiz Shajani scored on a breakthrough to help propel SNU to a 1-0 lead.

The Eagles (4-0, 0-0 LSC) quickly answered under a minute later, bringing the game back to a tie with a just under 40 minutes left in the match. Each team's defense did not budge, leaving the score to remain stalled at 1-1, until OC found a gap between two Storm defenders to punch one in at the 86th minute, controlling the match with the slim 2-1 lead.

Time constraints would plague the Storm for the remainder of the match, and OC extended their streak to 5-0 as they picked up the final 2-1 win over the Storm.

Shajani set the pace for the Storm earlier in the second half with his single goal to add to his four-shot night. Bruno Ferreira was another Storm member that secured one shot on goal and two total shots that evening.

The Storm will look to bounce back next week as they head to Wichita Falls, Texas to take on Texas A&M International Thursday, September 8 at 2:30 p.m
