Tigers Sneak By Storm

Second half burst pushes Ouachita Baptist past SNU

ARKADELPHIA, Arkansas — SNU faced another nail-biter Saturday afternoon as Ouachita Baptist ended the 1-1 tie late in the second half to take the 2-1 victory over SNU.

The Tigers (5-4-0, 2-1-0) took every opportunity on offense, putting up a total of 33 shots to the Storm's (3-4-1, 0-2-1) eight. Only eight of Ouachita's shots were on goal, largely controlled by SNU's effort on defense.

Ouachita claimed the 1-0 lead early in the first half, brought on by a solo shot to the back of the net. The Tigers continued their attack, but the Storm denied every shot taken by the purple and gold.

In the 38th minute, Kaitlyn Deaton found an open Josie Van Pelt for a Storm goal, tying it with Tigers at 1-1.

SNU's goal was the last of the first half, and the Storm headed into halftime knotted up with Ouachita at one goal a piece.

The defense remained strong in the second half as shots were taken but neither team could see a score. In the 67th minute, Ouachita snuck a solo shot into the net to reclaim their lead, now at 2-1.

SNU couldn't channel an offensive spark with the 23 minutes remaining. Van Pelt would send the last shot for SNU at the goal for the potential tie, but it was off the mark, leaving Ouachita to walk away with the slim 2-1 victory.

Van Pelt finished the match with four shots, two shots on goal, and SNU's single goal.

Fallon Weatherford recorded one shot on goal while Kenzie Macklin tallied three shots.

SNU returns to Bethany to take on Oklahoma Baptist Tuesday, September 27th. OBU is 2-0 in conference play, with wins over Harding and Ouachita Baptist. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
