BETHANY, Okla. — After a tough two-game road stretch, Southern Nazarene made their return to Bethany to face Oklahoma Baptist, where a tight contest ultimately led to a 1-1 draw.
Offense and defensive efforts from both the Storm (3-4-2, 0-2-2) and the Bison (3-5-1, 2-0-1) were at a high as a total of 44 shots, 22 shots on goal, and 20 saves were recorded between both squads.
SNU jumped on top early in the match, scoring just before the six-minute marker as Fallon Weatherford found Karla Ramirez for the quick score, claiming a 1-0 lead to start the contest.
The Storm worked to tack on another goal as shots from Josie Van Pelt, Quinnlan Edens, Cameryn Peter, Kenzie Macklin, and Maya Pomeroy were fired, but none would hit the back of the net. The first half came to a close with SNU still in lead at 1-0 over the Bison.
The contest was much of the same in the second half as both teams fought for a score. SNU keeper Gianna Bonnett defended the Storm's lead from inside the goal as she denied every Bison attack.
Late in the game, OBU turned the tide, punching one in just past the 87th minute, knotting up the contest at one a piece.
With two minutes remaining, SNU worked to reclaim their lead. The Storm fired three more shots for the attempted victory, but all were off the mark. 90 minutes was reached, leaving the game to end in a 1-1 draw.
Ramirez finished with two shots to go along with her goal while Weatherford ended with two shots on goal to add to her assist. Van Pelt worked for a seven-shot, three-shot on goal finish.
Bonnett tallied 11 saves against the Bison.
Southern Nazarene will be back on the road to play East Central on Saturday, October 1st for an 11 a.m. kick-off. Earlier in the season, SNU faced the Tigers on September 16th to open conference play, falling short to ECU 3-2.
