Storm Tie with Harding

SNU battles hard with Bisons to split the contest

SEARCY, Ark. – In their second conference match of the season, Southern Nazarene faced a tough contest with Harding, battling back and forth to result in a 1-1 draw.

The Bisons (1-5-2, 0-1-1 GAC) fired a total of 26 shots in the match, with only nine on goal. The Storm (3-3-1, 0-1-1 GAC) limited a lot of clean looks for Harding, saving eight of their shots and allowing only one through the net.

Both teams attacked right from kick-off, firing shots from all directions. Harding punched one to the back of the net in the 37th minute, taking the 1-0 lead over the Storm. Shots by Kaitlyn Deaton, Josie Van Pelt, and Abbi Johnson were fired in the remainder of the first half, but none landed in the net, allowing Harding to take the 1-0 leading going into halftime.

The defense stood strong between both squads in the second half, with Harding still controlling a 1-0 lead. Fallon Weatherford finally broke the Storm's scoring drought in the 83rd minute as Maya Pomeroy found her for a shot to the back of the net, knotting up the match at 1-1.

Neither team could gain an offensive edge in the final six minutes and time had run out, leaving the contest to result in a 1-1 draw.

Fallon Weatherford was the offensive spark for the Storm, landing both of her shot attempts on goal and scoring one goal while Maya Pomeroy added one assist.

Gianna Bonnett tallied eight saves in the match.

The Storm will remain in Arkansas for another conference matchup, taking on the Tigers of Ouachita Baptist Saturday, September 24th with kick-off set for 2 p.m. The Tigers have started 1-1 in conference play, picking up a win over Harding and a loss to Oklahoma Baptist. They are currently 4-4 overall on the season.
