Storm Split with Hillcats

SNU’s match with Rogers State ends in a 1-1 draw

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Facing their third conference contest of the season, Southern Nazarene went head-to-head with Rogers State, ending the match in a 1-1 tie.

The Storm (3-3-3, 1-0-2 GAC/MIAA) tested the Rogers State defense with a 14-shot, 10-shot on goal performance. The Hillcats (2-2-4, 0-0-2 GAC/MIAA) prevented the Storm from running away with the match, tallying nine saves in the contest.

Both teams battled for a lead in the first half, but shots between the two squads were off the mark. A scoreless 45 minutes would end, resulting in a 0-0 draw by halftime.

Rogers State gained momentum in the second half, finally breaking the tie with a goal in the 55th minute to hold a 1-0 lead over SNU. It wasn't long before the Storm answered as Kazuki Okazaki found Alvaro Sanchez in the gap for a Crimson Storm goal in the 60th minute.

Tied at 1-1 with Rogers State, SNU worked to gain a lead, firing rounds of shots as the minutes went by in the second half. The Hillcats did the same, but neither team could gain an advantage.

Daniel Trojman took the last shot of the match in the 88th minute, but it was just shy of the goal, leaving SNU to tie the match with the Hillcats at 1-1.

Sanchez's single shot resulted in the Storm's only goal.

Shun Kushima put up four shots with two on target while Rennato Ramos added three shots with two on target. Both Trojman and Juan Rodarte had two of their shots land on goal for SNU.

Bence Mocsari tallied three saves against the Hillcats.

SNU will continue conference play on Thursday, September 29th as they head home to take on Fort Hays State. The Tigers are currently 2-0-1 in conference with wins over Newman and Ouachita Baptist as well as a tie with Rogers State. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
