DALLAS, Texas — Southern Nazarene caused a frenzy in Dallas, Texas Saturday afternoon after exploding for eight goals to defeat Dallas Christian in their second game of the season.
Head Coach Josh Smith spoke about his promising freshman class earlier this season, and this held to be true Saturday afternoon as six of those eight scores were all courtesy of the newest additions to the women's soccer program. Freshman Midfielder Kenzie Macklin kept the scoreboard busy herself, claiming four of those goals for the Storm. As a team, the Storm (1-1, 0-0 GAC) attacked the Crusaders' (0-1, 0-0 NCCAA) defense with 29 total shots that afternoon.
SNU returner Kaitlyn Deaton started SNU's clean-sheet run with a shot to the back right at the two-minute marker. The junior had room for one more at 12 minutes, as she punched in another, this time, assisted by freshman Cameryn Peter.
Holding on to a 2-0 lead, Karla Ramirez made it 3-0 with her first goal of the season. Little time had passed and Kenzie Macklin began her offensive heat shortly after, punching in two unassisted goals right before the half to push SNU to a 5-0 advantage.
Macklin never hit the breaks, scoring her third to open the second period. Peter wanted a piece of the action as she scored the seventh for the Storm. Shots continued to fly from Smith's squad, and freshman Josie Van Pelt capped off the day with a shot to the back, giving the Storm their 8-0 take-home victory.
Along with her four goals that afternoon, Macklin finished with 10 total shots with four on goal. Deaton was a perfect 3-3 that afternoon to go along with her two goals.
Peter tallied five total shots with one goal to add her to her goal and assist. Ramirez finished with four total shots, one shot on goal to go along with her goal. Van Pelt's single goal gave her a perfect 1-1 day.
Southern Nazarene will head back to Oklahoma for another road game as they travel to Oklahoma Christian for a 6 p.m. kickoff Wednesday, August 31st.
