OKLAHOMA CITY – The Southern Nazarene women's golf team teed it up for the first time in competition in 2022 as they hosted the Diffee Invitational on Monday. After the opening 18 holes at Lincoln Park Golf Course (East Course), SNU finds themselves 14
th on the team leaderboard.
Cold and blustery conditions wreaked havoc on the entire field on Monday as there was just one player in the entire field to break par in the opening 18 holes. The Crimson Storm tried to shake off some rust from the Fall, as they competed in their first competition round since October. They were led by
Sara Armstrong who finished her last six holes in 1-under par to come in with an 80.
Four strokes behind Armstrong and making her Crimson Storm debut was
Hannah Torres, the transfer from Missouri Southern, who finished her first round with an 84.
Rebecca Davis posted a 90 in her opening 18 holes while
Parker Garrett came in with a 91. Rounding out the Storm lineup was
Carley Haught who finished with a 96.
SNU sits 11 strokes back of Park University in 13
th, and 12 behind Northwestern Oklahoma State in 12
th. Oklahoma Christian leads the way after firing a 289 team score to lead Northeastern State by eight strokes. Central Oklahoma sits third while Oklahoma City is in fourth.
The Eagles' Sofia Benavides will sleep on the overnight lead on the individual leaderboard as she fired a 1-under 70 on Monday to lead a pack of four golfers by just one stroke.
Southern Nazarene will close out their host tournament tomorrow morning from Lincoln Park as they tee off No. 10 beginning at 10:10 am.
