BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene Baseball finishes 0-3 over the weekend as they fall in both games of their doubleheader to Southeastern Oklahoma State 27-14 and 10-7.
Game 1
Southern Nazarene was off to a hot start, putting up a three run inning to kick of Game 2. Southeastern's bats were locked and loaded in the third inning, scoring 11 runs to help kickstart their offesnive onslaught the rest of the way.
The Crimson Storm (1-16, 0-8 GAC) started the contest off strong, with EJ Taylor hitting bomb over the fence to send in Colby Entwistle and Cole Embrey for an early 3-0 lead.
Southeastern (15-4, 8-2) exploded for an 11-run third inning, helped by two home runs to take the 11-3 lead. The Storm were able cut the deficit down to just three run after they made three trips across the plate.
Southeastern's wild pitch sent in Entwistle in for the first run while Peyton Vinyard's sacrifice bunt would give Taylor the second run. To cap off the scoring in that inning, Jake Schow's single up the middle would send Brian Brown home, giving the Storm the 6-11 trail after the third.
The deficit was cut down to just three runs in the fourth after Embrey and Entwistle crossed the plate, trailing behind the Savage Storm at 8-11.
Southeastern extended their lead to 14-8 in the fifth, but the Crimson Storm followed close behind. Taylor's single down to left field would send in Tyler Broyles for the score. Brown also singled, sending Kobie Bowie and Embrey across the plate for SNU's 10th and 11th run of the game. Suutheastern squeezed in one more run in the sixth to hold a 15-11 over SNU.
Southeastern started to pull away at the start of the seventh, putting up 12 more runs to take the game to 27-11.
Taylor's single woul give Embre the score to take it 14-27. Brown capped off the scoring for the Storm, hitting a bomb far and wide to plate Taylor and Embrey. The margin was just too much by the 9th inning, give SEOSU the victory in Game 1 with a final score of 27-14.
Taylor had an impressive showing at the plate, finishing 4-4 that afternoon with three runs, four RBI's, and one SNU's homeruns.
Brown also had a hot hand at bat, finishing 3-4 with two runs, six RBI's, and a homerun.
Oliver Wilson finished 1-6 with an RBI, Peyton Vinyard finsihed 1-5 with an RBI, and Jake Schow finished 2-5 with an RBI.
The Storm recorded a total of six strikeouts that game with two coming from Triston Graves as he picthed through two innnings. Casey Minchey, Kasen Jackson, Xavier Hall, and Oliver Wilson also recorded one strikeout each.
Game 2
Game 2 had a slower start, with the first runs scored in the third inning.
Southeastern was the first on the scoreboard, scoring two off of back-to-back singles to take the game to 2-0.
SNU began to bring the heat, starting off with Broyles getting hit by a pitch, plating Embrey in the process. Southeastern balked with the bases loaded, exciting the SNU offense as Entwistle crossed the plate to tie the game at 2-2. Schow's double to right field adavamced Broyles and Brown home for two more scores, giving SNU the lead at 4-2. Southern Nazarene wasn't finished that inning as Drake Irby's single to center field plated Jonathan Cristr and Schow to come up with the 6-2 lead moving into the fourth.
The Savage Storm started to step on the gas in the fourth as they went on five runs in the fourth to reclaim the lead at 8-6.
The Crimson Storm snuck one more run in to close out the forth as Broyles' single to center field gave EJ Taylor the score to out the Storm behind just one run at 7-8.
A balk by SNU owuld give Southeastern another run on the board followed by a single to end the 5th up 10-7 over SNU.
Darkness would call the game at five innings, awarding the win to the Savage Storm with a final 10-7 score.
Schow had a great at bat with his 1-2 finish, two RBI's and one run. Broyles finished 1-1 with two RBI's and a run while Irby also added in two RBI's. Taylor finished 2-3 with a run while Embrey also added in a run.
