Harding Takes Series Finale

SNU unable to capture sweep of Harding as Bisons earn 7-3 victory in series finale

SEARCY, Ark.—After a double-header sweep on Friday evening, Southern Nazarene was unable to capture a series sweep of Harding as the Bisons salvaged the final game with a 7-3 win over the Crimson Storm.

Harding (22-10, 11-6 GAC) used early offense to capture the game three win over Southern Nazarene (12-18, 9-7 GAC). The Bisons scored twice in first, three times in the second, and twice in the third to build a 7-1 lead. Karrah Dean worked the final four innings of the game and shut Harding out over their final three turns at bat.

Harding took a 2-0 lead in the first and never looked back. They capitalized on a pair of walks with a pair of hits to plate two runs. The Storm got one run back in the second inning on an Emma Swearingen solo shot, but Harding again responded with a three-spot, all of which came with two outs in the inning, in the bottom half of the second.

After Harding tacked on two more in the third, SNU got those two runs back after Hailie Fellers led off the fourth with a triple. She then scored on Hailey Evans' groundout. Later in the inning, Brooklyn Sullivan scored on a Liana Heshiki RBI single. That was the end of the scoring for either side.

Emma Swearigen was a force at the plate for the Crimson Storm. She added two more hits, one of which was a double, to go along with her homerun, giving herself a 3-for-4 day at the dish.

Liana Heshiki, Hailie Fellers, and Brooklyn Sullivan all notched a pair of hits, as well. Heshiki has now recorded multiple hits in 8 of her last 9 games and raised her batting average to .418, good for fourth in the Great American Conference. Her .496 on-base percentage also ranks fifth in the GAC.

The loss puts SNU in a tie for fifth in the GAC standings. They will have a chance to improve on that standing next weekend with a series at home against Northwestern Oklahoma State. Prior to that series, though, the Storm get set for a midweek non-conference double-header as SNU travels to Tahlequah to meet up with MIAA opponent Northeastern State. The teams met earlier this year in the Regional Festival at SNU Softball Field. SNU won that game 9-6. First pitch of Tuesday's double-header is set for 2:00 p.m.
