Storm Fall Short

Epic comeback comes just shy of victory as Southeastern sneaks by with the win in extra inning

DURANT, Okla. — Southern Nazarene was just shy of an epic comeback Wednesday afternoon against Southeastern Oklahoma State after rallying back from a six-run deficit to take the game to an extra inning, where they fell 11-10.

The Savage Storm held the lead for all of the contest, in front by as many as six, which was then challenged by the Storm after two huge home runs gave them the extra push late in the game to tie it at 10 a piece in the ninth.

Southeastern reached six runs before the Storm would see a single score, but Colby Entwistle broke the silence as he launched one over to left field with EJ Taylor and Brian Brown on base, giving the Storm three runs in the 6th to trail SEOSU 3-6.

The Crimson Storm would make it a two-run game after Weston Hicks' double gave Tyler Broyles the trip home, but Southeastern quickly put it back within three after a balk.

Southeastern enhanced the deficit even further after two back-to-back home runs sent the score up further to 4-10 to close out the 6th inning.

SNU put together an incredible comeback at the start of the seventh, beginning with Cole Embrey's single that sent in Drake Irby for the score. With bases loaded, Noah Ellis cracked one down left field, giving Entwistle, Brown, and Taylor a trip around the diamond and the gap was quickly cut to one at 9-10 in the seventh.

Southeastern would not score in the 8th or 9th leaving SNU with one last shot at being rewarded an extra inning. Brown did just that, singling Jonathan Crist in to send the game into an extra inning as both team sat tied at 10-10.

The Savage Storm took advantage of the extra time as they ended the inning with a bomb over to left field, giving them that one extra score to seal the deal on the victory as the final score read 11-10.

Ellis came in clutch in the comeback rally, finishing 1-2 with his four RBI's resulting from his huge homerun late in the game.

Entwistle's big time hit cut the deficit late the game as he finished 1-5 with three RBI's from his homerun.

Brian Brown was a force at the plate, finishing 3-4 while recording an RBI in the process.

The Storm are back in Bethany the weekend of March 25th to host Harding University for a Friday single game at 2:00 p.m. and a Saturday doubleheader at noon.
