SNU Drops Two

SNU falls in a pair of pitcher's duels on Saturday afternoon

EDMOND, Okla.—It was a day for pitchers as Southern Nazarene fell in a pair of pitcher's duels on Saturday afternoon, falling 2-1 to Rogers State early in the day before falling 3-1 to No. 20 Central Oklahoma later in the evening.

Game 1:

A fantastic start in game one from Chelsea Vandiver would not be enough as Rogers State squeaked out a 2-1 win over the Crimson Storm.

Vandiver pitched a complete game and limited Rogers to just two hits in the game. Those two hits would be enough, though, as the Hillcats scratched out a run in the second and a run in the fourth to take the win.

Southern Nazarene's offense never got going either. Caitlyn Curlee (Bates) blasted SNU's first home run of the season to leadoff the second inning. That was all the Storm mustered on offense, though, as they totaled just four hits in the contest. They never moved a runner into scoring position after the second inning.

Game 2:

It was unfortunately more of the same for Southern Nazarene in game two. Jennifer Romero-Ivarson put together another masterful start, but the offense could only put together one run on another solo home run against nationally ranked No. 20 Central Oklahoma.

Central Oklahoma pieced together a three run third inning to build a 3-0 lead. That was all they needed as four hits, all of which were singles, proved to be enough to beat the Storm on Saturday evening.

Following the Bronchos' three run third inning, Anna Icenhower cut into that lead with a solo blast in the fourth. That was the last hit SNU could muster, though, as they followed the home run by finishing the game 0-for-11 with a walk.

Romero-Ivarson finished a complete game giving up just two earned runs and striking out three batters.

The Storm will close out the OC/UCO festival tomorrow with two more games at Oklahoma Christian University. The Storm do battle with Missouri Southern at 10:30 a.m. before taking on another top ranked team in No. 15 Oklahoma Christian at 3:00 p.m.
