ALVA, Okla.—It was a dominant all-around performance from Southern Nazarene as they went on the road and dismantled Northwestern Oklahoma State 75-51 in Alva.
After narrowly escaping East Central in their last matchup, Southern Nazarene (5-2, 3-0 GAC) had no problems in their game with Northwestern Oklahoma State (3-3, 0-3 GAC). SNU led by as many as 27 points as they cruised to the win. They were nearly unstoppable on offense, shooting 57.1% from the floor and 63.6% from deep.
It was the Javon Jackson show in the first half. Getting his first collegiate start, he scored 22 of his 24 points in the opening 20 minutes of the game. He nearly kept up with Northwestern all on his own as SNU limited the Rangers to just 27 first half points. The Storm never trailed in the game as Tyler McGhie knocked down a triple on the opening possession and the team never looked back. They built the lead as high as 19 points in the first half and took a 45-27 lead into the break.
Northwestern came out in the second half and quickly trimmed their deficit back to single digits after opening the half on a 9-0 run thanks to back-to-back-back three pointers. Their momentum did not last long, though, as the Storm quickly rebuilt their lead. The lead grew as high as 73-46 after another big 15-2 run from the Crimson Storm.
Javon Jackson was not the only Storm player to reach the 20-point marker as Tyler McGhie used a 15 point second-half to give him a season-high 20 points in the game. Jackson and McGhie each also contributed defensively with a pair of steals.
Eain Mowat provided a nice spark off the bench. He knocked down all three of his three point attempts in the first half to give him 9 points.
Nick Davis and Jalen Lynn each also added 8 points.
With the win, SNU moved their winning streak to three straight games and have started GAC play strong with a 3-0 record. SNU turns away from GAC play next time out as they make the short trip to Oklahoma Christian. The Storm have defeated the Eagles in their last three matchups. SNU will return home on December 17 to take on Southwestern Oklahoma State. Tipoff with Oklahoma Christian is set for 7:00 p.m. in Edmond.
