SNU Drops Match to Ouachita Baptist

The Storm come up short 2-0 in tough contest with the Tigers

BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene looked to end their two-game skid in Bethany Thursday evening against Ouachita Baptist, but a hard-fought battle turned into an OBU 2-0 win.

The Storm (4-7-2, 1-5-2) saw a similar match earlier in the season against the Tigers (8-4-1, 5-1-1), where they fell 2-1 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. In this match, SNU faced a tough Tigers squad once more, falling behind just two goals.

The first half was a back-and-forth affair with neither team seeing a score for the entire 45 minutes. SNU had numerous good looks between Fallon Weatherford, Maya Pomeroy, and Karla Ramirez, but each shot was just shy of landing a goal.

SNU Keeper Gianna Bonnett was on high alert the entire first half, recording five saves to keep the Tigers off the scoreboard. Ouachita had a few possessions near the goal that tested the Storm defense, but the Tigers wouldn't land a goal either and both teams headed into the break at a 0-0 standstill.

The Tigers turned up the heat in the second half, starting with a solo shot to the back of the net that gave them their first score on the board. SNU battled to try and earn a score of their own, but Ouachita Baptist challenged the SNU defense once more, getting another solo shot to land a goal in the 70th minute, taking their lead to 2-0 over the Storm.

A couple of shots from Eden Holetsky and Kaitlyn Deaton were fired to try and cut the deficit, but the second half came to a close and Ouachita Baptist claimed the 2-0 victory.

Ramirez finished with two shots and one on goal while Weatherford, Schaffer, and Deaton each recorded two shots that evening.

SNU has a quick turnaround this weekend as they are back at home to take on Harding Saturday, October 15th at 2 p.m. The Storm tied their last match with Harding 1-1 in Searcy, Arkansas.
